Comforts of Home Quilt Block: 12-inch finished size

The Comforts of Home quilt block goes together quickly and is a nice choice for your next scrap quilt. The block is assembled with a combination of strip piecing and quick piecing techniques.

Follow the instructions to make three identical quilt blocks from your fabric stash. Repeat all steps to make as many blocks as needed for your quilt, varying the fabrics in each set of three to keep things scrappy.

Refer to the illustration to help visualize fabric placement.

Fabric A

  • Cut six 3-1/2" squares
  • Cut one 2-1/2" x 17" strip

Fabric B

  • Cut six 3-1/2" squares
  • Cut one 2-1/2" x 17" strip

Fabric C

  • Cut twelve 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles
  • Cut one 2-1/2" x 9" strip

Fabric D

  • Cut twenty-four 3-1/2" squares

Fabric E

  • Cut one 2-1/2" x 17" strip
  • Cut two 2-1/2" x 9" strips

Cut all pieces so the fabric's straight grain (either the straight grain or the crosswise grain) runs parallel to the outer edges. Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all seams.
