Quilting Fabrics
Make this 6" version of the Buckeye Beauty block for the May Beginner Block Lotto. Please refer to the forum discussion for more details about fabrics and the two colorways that will be sewn.You'll make pairs of blocks. Sew the first with a purple path and green corners as directed below. Make a second by using green in the strip sets and purple in the corner half-square triangle units.
Fabrics for First Quilt Block
- White-on-White (WoW) for light squares in four-patch units
- WoW for half square triangle units
- Purple tone-on-tone for dark squares in four-patch units
- Green tone-on-tone for half square triangle units

Purple Fabric- Cut one strip 2" x 9" long
WoW
- Cut one strip 2" x 9" long
- Cut one 3-7/8" square
- Cut one 3-7/8" square
Buckeye Beauty Block Assembly
- Assemble a strip set as shown on page 2, but substituting the 9" long WoW and purple strips for the longer strips used in that 10" version of the block.
- Press the strip set's seam allowance towards the darker fabric and square up one end. Cut four 2" segments from the set.
- Use the segments to create two four-patch units, placing like colors on the diagonal in each.
- Use the sandwich method[/link"> to create two half-square triangle units from the 3-7/8" WoW and green squares. Each completed unit should measure 3-1/2" x 3-1/2".
- Assemble the block as shown on page 2 and in the grouping above, placing the green triangles in two corners and arranging the purple squares in four-patch units to flow diagonally between them. WoW areas of the four-patch units and half-square triangles should meet.
- Your block should measure 6-1/2" x 6-1/2".
