Easy Bow Tie Quilt Block

The traditional Bow Tie quilt block has a rectangular center that's pieced to the outer areas of the tie with set-in seams. This easy version of the block looks just a bit different, but eliminates set-ins, making it more simple to piece.

Choose two contrasting fabrics, one for your bow tie an another for your background.

Cutting Chart for One Bow Tie Block

12-inch Finished Blocks

  • Background: cut two 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" squares

  • Bow Tie Fabric: cut two 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" squares; cut two 3" x 3" squares.

6-inch Finished Blocks

  • Background: cut two 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares

  • Bow Tie Fabric: cut two 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares; cut two 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares.

3-inch Finished Blocks

  • Background: cut two 2" x 2" squares

  • Bow Tie Fabric: cut two 2" x 2" squares; cut two 1" x 1" squares.
