Road to California Quilt Block PatternThis easy quilt block is similar to other traditional designs, including Jacob's Ladder and other designs that use the word California in their names. I've written patterns for a few of the variations:
- 9" Road to California Quilt Block
- 13-1/2" California Crossroads Quilt Block, much like the 9" pattern, but larger
Finished block size: 12" x 12"
For the Scrap-Happy Sampler QuiltPay no attention to my fabric choices; the color/value suggestions below are just that - suggestions. This is a scrap quilt, so choose your own colors and your own color value placements. My block is simply a guide.
Medium dark or dark for block corners: (2) 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" squares
Very dark for four patch units (three of the four patches run on the block's diagonal): (1) 2-1/2" x 15-1/2" strip
Light for background -- can be the same fabric or a mixture: (1) 2-1/2" x 15-1/2" strip for four patches; (2) 4-7/8" x 4-7/8" squares for half square triangle units
Medium to dark warm: (2) 4-7/8" x 4-7/8" squares for half square triangle units (remember that warms typically pop out, so even a light warm, like a yellow, could have as much impact as a dark)
