Cutting for Quarter Square Triangle Units
Square up fabric strips before cutting shapes from them. Cutting instructions assume you'll use the sandwich method to make half square triangle parents for block units. Alter cutting instructions if you wish to use another method.Blue: Cut (5) 5-1/4" strips from selvage to selvage; cut (40) 5-1/4" x 5-1/4" squares
Blue: Cut one 2-1/2" strip from selvage to selvage and one 2-1/2" x 11" strip; cut (20) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares

Make the Quarter Square Triangle Units
Use half square triangle units as "parents" for your quarter squares.
- Use the easy sandwich method to combine each 5-1/4" blue square with a background square of the same size. When finished, you'll have (80) blue/background half square triangle units that each measure 4-7/8" square.
- Repeat, but sandwich each half square triangle unit with a 4-7/8" pink square. When finished you'll have (160) quarter square triangle units that measure 4-1/2" square, (80) of each type illustrated. Stack the units required for the Double Star together and set their mirror images aside.
