Introduction to the Double Star Quilt Pattern

Double Star Quilt

Janet Wickell
Traditional Double Star quilt blocks (also known as Hope of Hartford) are made from four identical quarter-square triangle units, one center square and four rectangles.

I like to separate Double Star quilt blocks with sashing, because I'm not always fond of the way the blocks line up with each other when sewn side by side, and because I think they look more like spinning pinwheels when they're separated a bit. This quilt uses sashing with cornerstones, but you can sew plain sashing if you prefer.
