Assemble the Quilt Block
- Sew a 2-1/2” x selvage length dark green strip lengthwise to each side of a 4-1/2” rosy maroon strip of the same length to create a long strip set. Press seam allowances towards the rosy maroon strip.
- Square up one end of the strip set and cut as many 2-1/2” segments from it as possible (left illustration).
- Cut an 18” length from one of the remaining 4-1/2” wide maroon strips. Make an identical, but shorter strip set from it and the 2-1/2” x 18” green strips. Cut additional 2-1/2” segments from the shorter strip set until you have accumulated a total of 20 segments. Set aside.
- Cut (20) 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” rectangles from the remaining maroon strips. Set aside.
- Sew a 2-1/2” x selvage width light neutral strip to a light green strip of the same size. Press the seam allowance towards the green strip.
- Cut as many 2-1/2” segments from the new strip set as possible (middle illustration).
- Sew the 2-1/2” x 18” light strip to the remaining light green strip to create another strip set. Cut addition 2-1/2” segments until you have a total of 20.
- Sew two of the light neutral/light green segments together to assemble a small four-patch block. Like-fabrics should be diagonal to each other (top right illustration). Press seam allowance either direction.
- Sew a 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” maroon rectangle to opposite sides of a small four-patch unit (lower right illustration). Press seam allowances towards the maroon rectangles.
- Sew a strip-pieced segment with green corners to remaining sides of the quilt block. Press seam allowances away from the block’s center.
- Make a total of 10 identical quilt blocks.
