- The quilt finishes at 17-1/2" x 17-1/2", which includes a 1/4" wide binding around its perimeter.
- The applique block finishes at 10" square.
Choose fabrics to suit your needs -- they needn't resemble mine.
Use your favorite applique method to construct the center block. A few choices:
- Traditional needleturn applique
- Sew and turn applique
- Easy fusible applique (linked pattern includes instructions for this technique)
- any other applique method

Cut (1) 12" x 12" square (oversize to allow easier squaring up later)
Fabrics for the Quilt's Borders
Patchwork border above and below the quilt block: (12) 1-1/2" x 3" scrapsWide inner side borders: (2) 3" x 10-1/2" strips
Top and bottom solid borders that are sewn above and below patchwork borders: (2) 2" x 15-1/2" strips
Outer border: cut (2) 1-1/2" x 15-1/2" and (2) 1-1/2" x 17-1/2" it's often best to wait until you've assembled the quilt top before cutting its final borders
Other Materials
Quilt batting (try low loft) and backing: about 23" square each should be plentyBinding: about 95 continuous inches of doublefold binding to finish at 1/4" wide (quilt binding strip instructions)
