Assemble the Basket Block
Refer to the drawing above as you assemble the block.Assemble Units as Shown Upper Left
- Sew two red/background triangle square units together as shown in the uppermost, horizontal row. Sew the 3-1/2" background square to the new unit's left end and a background/dark blue triangle square unit to its right end. Press seam allowances towards the end with the background square.
- Sew two red/background triangle square units together as shown in the left, vertical row. Sew a background/dark blue triangle square to the bottom of the row. Press seam allowances towards the top units.
- Sew a small dark blue triangle to each light blue/dark blue triangle square unit, positioning triangles as shown to create mirror image units. Press seams towards the dark triangles. (Note that when you place units together for sewing, you'll orient dark triangles so that they flow in the same direction as dark triangles in the square units.)
- Sew the units you just created to the large light blue/dark blue triangle square unit. When aligned for sewing, the 90-degree corners of the small triangle square units should align with opposite corners of the large pieced square as shown. Press seams towards large light blue triangle.
- Fold the floral triangle in half and crease lightly, matching its pointed corners to find the midpoint along its long edge. Center the triangle with the midpoint of the light blue/dark blue base unit, right sides together. Sew. Press the seam allowance towards the floral triangle.
- Sew the short, vertical outer row to the left side of the basket base unit. Press seam allowance towards the basket base.
- Finish up by sewing the top, horizontal row to the block. Press seam allowance either direction.
