Plain Corner Option
The Anniversary Sampler corner triangles are pieced, with borders and cornerstones and a plain triangle between them, but you can use a plain triangle if you prefer:
- Cut two 22-1/8" x 22-1/8" squares; cut each square in half once diagonally to make four corner triangles. Use instead of pieced option below.
Pieced Corners
Cutting for Pieced Corner Triangles
- (4) 4" x 4" medium-dark blue squares
- (8) 4" x 19" medium-brown bars
- (2) 16" x 16" light-brown squares; cut each square in half once diagonally
Assemble Corners
- Sew a blue square to the left end of a medium-brown bar. Press seam allowance towards the square.
- Sew a medium-brown bar to the side of a light-brown triangle. Press seam allowance towards the triangle.
- Sew the square/bar unit to the bar/triangle unit. Press and make sure the unit is not skewed -- its sides should be in-square with each other.
- Remove the "dog ears" from the bars by trimming the unit flush with the edge of the triangle's long side.
- Center and sew the unit to one corner of the quilt.
- Assemble three more units and sew to the remaining corners.
Sew the Borders
Use my straight border instructions to add borders. Make the inner border from 2" wide strips and the outer border from 6-1/2" wide strips. If you are a new quilter, don't be tempted to make borders that match the measurements along the sides of your quilt. Borders offer an opportunity to correct inconsistencies, leaving you with a quilt that's in-square along its edges.
