Cut Squares for Star Tips
Gold-yellow: cut (2) 1-1/2" wide strips from selvage to selvage and another strip 1-1/2" wide and 29" long; square up one end of each strip and cut (72) 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares
Make Pieced Sashing
Use the Flying Geese Method to sew star points to the ends of patchwork sashing. Star points are created from 1-1/2" yellow squares. Be sure to orient the squares as illustrated on this page to create sashing ends.Sashing 1, Star Tips on One End
Light-blue: Make (4) light-blue Sashing 1 units
Medium-dark blue: Make (8) medium-dark blue Sashing 1 units
Sashing 2, Star Tips on Both Ends
Light-blue: Make (12) light-blue Sashing 2 units
Remaining medium-dark blue sashing units are not pieced.
Using the illustrations on page 1 and page 3 as guides, arrange sashing units between blocks on the design wall. Shift blocks around, adjusting the layout to suit you.
