Make the Strip Pieced Units
Narrow Units
- After checking to make sure you are sewing an accurate quarter-inch seam allowance, sew a 1-1/2" x 20" Fabric B strip lengthwise to a Fabric D strip of the same size.
- Press the seam allowance towards Fabric D.
- Use your rotary equipment to square up one end of the strip set, so that it has a 90-degree edge, and then cut twelve 1-1/2" segments from it. Check the leading edge as you work and square it up again if necessary.
Four-Patch Units
- Sew a 2-3/4" x 24" Fabric A strip lengthwise to a Fabric E strip of the same size.
- Press the seam allowance towards Fabric A.
- Square-up one end of the strip set, and then cut eight 2-3/4" segments from it.
- Sew two segments together to make a four-patch unit as shown, with contrasting squares opposite each other. Press seam allowance either way. Repeat to make a total of four identical four-patch units.
