Assemble the Cut Glass Dish Quilt Block

sampler quilt block

Sew the units into groups, and then rows. Sew rows together to finish the quilt block.

  1. Refer to the illustration to assemble the half-square triangles into the six units shown, taking care to orient the triangles correctly. Each new unit contains four triangle square units.

  2. Combine the units containing triangle squares with the three four-patch units to create three rows as illustrated. Sew the units in each row together.

  3. Sew the rows together to finish the block. Before sewing, press seam allowances in adjoining rows in opposite directions where possible to help you butt seams for a snug match. That likely won't be possible for all units, so take time to match seams carefully.

Your quilt block should measure 12-1/2" x 12-1/2" square. If your block is smaller than it should be, or skewed, press again and recheck. If it still isn't quite right, use my easy squaring-up method before sewing it in your quilt.
