The eighth block for the About.com 2007 Anniversary Sampler is rotary cut and quick-pieced. Instructions help you make half-square triangle units with the sandwich method, which uses 2-7/8" squares, but you can sew them on a 2-7/8" long grid or use any other technique you prefer as long as your triangle squares measure 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" when complete. I usually cut oversized squares (in this case I would probably use 3 to 3-1/8" squares), and then use a square ruler with a diagonal line to trim my completed units back to the exact size after assembly.
Like other Sampler Quilt blocks, this block finishes at 12-inches square and will be arranged on-point in the finished quilt.
Fabrics shown are for clarity. Use tone-on-tones and an assortment of prints, but choose fabrics and colors that work with your quilt's theme.
