Linton quilt blocks make lovely quilts, and are suitable for both orderly and scrap layouts. See the last page of this pattern for a preview of four Linton blocks arranged into two rows.
My pattern shows you how to make two Linton quilt blocks that finish at 15-inches square -- a bit larger in size to make its smallest patchwork a little less teeny. The quilt block shown is sewn with four different fabrics, but go completely scrappy if you like.
Fabrics for *TWO* 15" Linton Quilt Blocks
Some units will be quick-pieced.Brown-gold print for large and small triangles:
- (1) 7-1/2" x 7-1/2" square
- (2) 7-1/8" x 7-1/8" squares -- cut each in half once diagonally
- (10) 2-1/8" x 2-1/8" squares -- cut each in half once diagonally
Muted yellow-gold print for lighter large and small triangles:
- (1) 7-1/2" x 7-1/2" square
- (2) 7-1/8" x 7-1/8" squares -- cut each in half once diagonally
- (10) 2-1/8" x 2-1/8" squares -- cut each in half once diagonally
Most of the 2-1/8" squares listed below will be paired to make half square triangle units with a finished size of 1-1/4" x 1-1/4". Change cutting to use a different assembly method. When using the paired method for tiny units, I typically cut the squares a bit oversize, and then trim the units back to their exact unfinished sizes before sewing them into a block (trim-back instructions).
Black print for small triangles:
- (24) 2-1/8" x 2-1/8" squares for half square triangle units
- (20) (additional) 2-1/8" x 2-1/8" squares, do not cut oversize, but do cut each in half once diagonally
Light blue print for small triangles:
- (24) 2-1/8" x 2-1/8" squares for half square triangle units
