City Streets Quilt Block

City Streets is one of many names this basic design has been called throughout the years. I did make a change to its original layout, eliminating the mitered seams at the ends of bars that frame the block's corner squares.

All fabrics are cut so that edges lie on the fabric's straight grain.

City Streets is one of the quilt blocks used in the Backwards Medallion Sampler quilt pattern, but can be sewn any time you need a block that finishes at 6-inches square.

Change the looks of the block by choosing different fabrics and by altering contrast from patch to patch.

Cutting for One City Streets Quilt Block

Focal fabric for center square: (1) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" square

Medium fabric to frame corner squares: (4) 1-1/8" x 2-1/2" bars and 1-1/8" x 8" strip

Very dark fabric for inner frame and corners: (1) 1-1/8" x 10-1/2" strip and (1) 1-7/8" x 8" strip

Light for rectangles at mid-points of each side: (1) 1-7/8" x 10-1/2" strip
