Birthday Cake Quilt Block
The traditional patchwork Birthday Cake quilt block is a popular design that's constructed from two different sizes of half square triangle units, also known as triangle squares.Choose a color scheme for your quilt blocks or make them from a scrappy assortment of fabrics. The Birthday Cake block is often sewn with a light, background, but change the placement of color and color value to suit your needs. The block is suitable for any types of fabrics, from solids to batiks to florals.
- Use blocks side-by-side in a straight setting or try it on-point.
- If you like, surround the Birthday Cake block with corner triangles and sew columns of blocks together to create a strippy set quilt. Cut corner triangles by dividing (2) 9-3/8" x 9-3/8" squares in half once diagonally to produce four triangles. Center and sew to the sides of the quilt block. Repeat for each block.
