Let's Talk About Rotary Cutting

Sunday March 11, 2007
If you're a beginning quilter you might still be a bit uncertain about rotary cutting, but I'm sure you've read a lot about it, because just about every quilting book on the market assumes you understand how to use the tools to cut your fabrics. Once you get the basics behind you it is indeed an easy technique, but there are some things to consider before you begin. Like an introduction to rotary cutting tools to help you evaluate your options. Buying a rotary cutter itself involves several safety and comfort decisions, so be sure to consider the pros and cons of different cutter styles. And don't make your first cut until you understand rotary cutting safety. Once you're ready to cut, learn how to cut long strips of fabric first--after that you'll find it's easy to cut patchwork shapes. If you're a new quilter it might all seem overwhelming, but trust me, it really isn't. Start with the basics and move forward a step at a time and you'll be rotary cutting perfect shapes in no time.

I am in the same boat as Kathy. I will retire in 2 weeks and will move to mountain location with plenty of time to quilt. I also have 4 of my relatives new to quilting that I am helping learn. All about Rotary Cutting will help I am sure. Thanks, Annette
