10-Inch Patchwork Quilt Block Patterns

Create a quilt with one or more of these 10" quilt block patterns.

Ten-inch quilt blocks are usually five patch designs, but the patchwork in some of the blocks has been subdivided to make the layout more intricate. This block size works nicely for all sorts of quilts, from baby quilts and wallhanging to bed quilt projects.

    I like to use the same color for all of the interior pinwheel areas of Baton Rouge Square quilt blocks, but you might prefer the look on the right, with colors that are split. Try using two fabrics that blend just a bit in those slots for a slightly different look.

    Use quick piecing techniques to assemble 10" Square and a Half quilt blocks. The illustration shows how easy it is to alter the look of the block by simply changing its corners, but there are many other ways to change its appearance. Use fabrics of different colors instead of a monochromatic layout or sew blocks from a wide assortment of fabrics to make a scrap quilt.

    Put your small scraps to good use by making a batch of Twenty-Five Patch quilt blocks. Be sure to have some solid black or navy blue fabric on hand to help a few squares in this design 'drop out' to create more visual interest. The block can be sewn in a theme, too, and you can put strip piecing to work to avoid sewing each square together individually.
