String quilting is a free-form way to make foundation pieced quilts. It's easy, and no two quilts or quilt blocks will be exactly the same -- and that's a good thing. Use your scraps to create a quilt or choose fabric specifically for strings. This string block was inspired by a Civil War era quilt on display in North Carolina. Many of the blocks in the quilt are similar, and all are constructed with silk fabric and ribbons.
If you like to string piece, give this block a try, and make several variations to create a unique quilt.
