It's a little difficult to tell from the small illustration, but the colorful blocks in this quilt are each made up of four small maple leaf units separated by sashing, and with a center cornerstone. The alternate blocks are Snowballs with deep red corners that link with the maple leaves to create the diagonal flow. It's a large quilt, finishing at 82" x 110", but you can adjust the size by sewing fewer blocks or by changing or eliminating borders.
The focal blocks are composed of small units (6" finished leaves) that could be used to make a colorful baby quilt. You might want to sew sashing between the blocks instead of the large Snowballs, and the scale of the block's existing sashing could be reduced a bit (it currently finishes at 2").

I love how you already have us thinking about fall! It is almost too hot to sew out here (mostly the ironing aspect) but I can do a lot with ironing too.
PS. I REALLY hope there will be another Mystery Quilt this New Years.
I was thinking about that the other day.
