Use a Fabric to Inspire Colors for Pinwheel Quilt Blocks

I had forgotten about this pattern, created for a forum event in 2007. The hostess who organized the event used that year's Hoffman Challenge fabric as inspiration for what was at that time called the block lotto (it's now called the Block Party). Quilters made monochromatic pinwheel quilt blocks, choosing colors from the print. Each block contained a light and a dark of the same color.

You can do the same thing with any quilting fabric, and pinwheels are the perfect choice for this technique, because the lights and darks give the blocks a nice spin. Read more...
