Thumb through indexes of patchwork quilt block patterns and you'll discover there are several variations of The Broken Branch quilt block, all with different names. That's not unusual -- nearly every quilt block out there has been altered a bit here and there, with different names tagged on for each version. The differences in Broken Branch blocks are mostly found in the number and sizes of half square triangle units that appear along its edges. I like this version best, because the smaller scale of those triangle square units gives the block a delicate appearance. Broken Branch finishes at 15" square -- a nice size to use in a medallion quilt or wallhanging, but not so large that it won't be just as suitable for a bed quilt.
