This is one of those quilt blocks that's been known by several names throughout the years, depending on how its components are configured. One term used for it is Friendship Block, because people tended to place signatures on the lighter components when using the block to make a quilt for a friend. It's also called Paths and Stiles, although some layouts with that name have a nine patch center, rather than the plain square shown here. No matter what it's called, the block is easy to make. I made quite a few of them for a block swap a few years ago and want to share the pattern with you. The picture illustrates nine of the blocks I received in the scrappy swap.
