I'm excited to finally announce that we're looking for a contributing writer (CW for short) for the Quilting site. CWs are part of a new program at About.com, one that's helping Guides fill-in areas of specialized content, in this case someone to write about Machine Quilting (it's a fantastic method, but I love hand quilting, and have loads of work to do in order to develop that content). So if you love to machine quilt, and have technical writing experience, just follow the link to learn how to apply to be a Contributing Writer for the Quilting site.

Janet, Imagine my surprise and delight to have your site pop up when I was looking for bow tie quilt patterns. My Mom made a quilt of my Dad’s old ties using a bow tie quilt pattern and I thought it would be nice for John to have one with his Dad’s old ties. He has a box of ties that could be used in a quilt or quilted wall hanging.
My Mom will probably make John’s quilt as well since I have no free time between work and everything else. I managed the Century 21 here in Greensboro for 2 years when we first moved to Greensboro but left there and have managed a law firm for the past 5 years. Hope you are doing well. Tell Lazelle I said hi when you see her.

Hi Cheryl, good to hear from you! Those Bow Tie quilts are great, and there are at least a couple of ways to assemble them. I’ve meant to do the same for awhile, but my time is tied up right now. We still have BRT and also a fudge shop (our downtown building, where have 2 sewing machines set up). Lazelle is out of town now with family, but I’ll tell her you said hi when she returns. Send me a pic of the quilt when you get it assembled.

I never was good at sewing & then, somehow, I got bit by the quilting bug. That came about shortly after I began to quilt, enjoying hand quilting much more than machine. We are fortunate to have the Levy Co Quilt Museum in the area & I learned so much from them about hand quilting. I will soon set up the quilting frame & put a handsewn Trip Around the World on that my husband’s grandmother made. Hand quilting is so relaxing! Give it a try!
