Miniature Oddfellows Star Quilt Pattern
Saturday May 31, 2008
I have had more requests for this miniature quilt pattern than for all of the others in the Quick Little Quilts gallery. The quilt is foundation pieced. If that's a new technique for you, definitely read my Foundation Piecings Basics and Paper Piecing Tips before you begin. And it wouldn't hurt to make a practice log cabin block just to get a feel for the technique. Foundation piecing isn't difficult, but it's different. Once you understand how to do it, you can assemble any foundation pieced block with few (or no) instructions. Be sure to cut only enough fabric to make a block or two. Everyone aligns patches differently for foundation piecing -- my suggestions are generous, but test them out before you dive in and cut tons of fabric.Photo © Janet Wickell

Dear Janet,
Well worth the long wait! I’ve been working on UFOs this month, but will be hard pressed to not jump right into making this one!
You have simplified the color options if I’m not mistaken? The picture looks like you used several different fabrics, rather than just the four (plus background) in your directions.
I’m planning to go scrappy, but don’t want to lose the secondary patterns that emerge…
Thanks!
Helen
