Double Pinwheel Quilt Block Pattern

Friday March 7, 2008
quilting We'll make eight half-square triangle units, called triangle squares for short, for the Double Pinwheel block. The triangle square is probably the most commonly used patchwork unit, so you'll encounter it over and over when you make quilts. The block goes together quickly and easily, and I think you'll like the color play created by the pinwheel extension in the outer rows.

I wish you would make this into a 30 in. block. I think it would be great.

Hi Carol,

I’ll give quick sizes for a 28″ square block:

Background
Four 7-1/2″ squares
Two 7-7/8″ squares for half square triangle units

Medium Blue
Same as pieces from background fabric

Dark Blue
Two 7-7/8″ squares for half square triangle units

Yellow
Same as dark blue

Use the same assembly instructions, but substitute the larger pieces.

For a 30-inch block: 7-1/2″ squares would increase to 8″ square; 7-7/8″ squares would increase to 8-3/8″ square
