Double Pinwheel Quilt Block

quilting Block-a-Day August: Block 3

We'll make eight half-square triangle units, called triangle squares for short, for the Double Pinwheel block. The triangle square is probably the most commonly used patchwork unit, so you'll encounter it over and over when you make quilts. The block goes together quickly and easily, and I think you'll like the color play created by the pinwheel extension in the outer rows.

I couldn’t find blocks one and two. Are they on the site somewhere else?

Hi Joan, they have probably dropped off the main page and into the “archived” area of the blog. They were the Oriental Attic Windows and the Tea Leaf block. Look up the page, on the left, under “Essentials.” Follow the link to the “Free Quilt Block Patterns” and you’ll see thumbnails of them.
