Use Partial Seams to Make the Bright Hopes Quilt Block

Monday March 26, 2007
The Bright Hopes block is a traditional quilt block that's assembled with partial seams. There are just five pieces in the block, a center square surrounded by four rectangles that move from medium-light to dark. Five pieces per block makes it a breeze to cut and sew, and Bright Hopes is a good choice for block swaps because even beginners can put it together with no problems. I cut and pieced this block in about ten or twelve minutes. Use chain piecing and you can do a bunch in no time.

This is a nice block pattern but, like many others, what quilting pattern would look best after they’re all put together? Could you include some tips with your patterns?

I did a quilt out of a similiar pattern, difference was the square was a halfsquare triangle and the rectangles were made up of three strips each……loved making that quilt, added a border to it. I made mine out of all black and white pattern fabric and bordered it with maroon shadow play fabric and bound it with black moda fabric………turned out fabulous.
