Book Review: "Amish Inspired Quilts"

Tuesday September 26, 2006
I love Amish quilts but have only made a few -- and they were in miniature. Many of the quilts from past generations of Amish quilters show how talented the quiltmakers were at mixing the colors available to them to create dramatic designs. They certainly knew how to choose colors and work with color value. And some were masters at creating occasional sparkle by placing a few patches of super-light fabrics here and there. The key word in this book's title is definitely inspired. Quilts are made from colors you don't usually see in traditional Amish quilts, and the authors included lots of applique, so they've stretched the boundaries a bit.

The only solid color fabric I've bought in years was for a recent block swap, but Amish Inspired Quilts has me looking at those Kona cottons again.
