Standard Mattress Sizes
Tuesday June 27, 2006
It's been an interesting week. Our house was struck by lightning Friday--a day after I got back from a road trip (where my tiny car was swayin' in 65+ mph winds and I think I was screamining as loud as the thunder). The lightning ordeal pretty much left me feeling worn out and definitely not too creative. And since I'm addicted to the Internet, I haven't known what to do with my time since our DSL equipment got zapped (what did we do before we were online so much?). So I decided that standard mattress sizes is perfect blog material for today's state of mind. It's a topic that's definitely not exciting (I don't think I could take much more excitement) but an essential ingredient when you're making a quilt.

I have this king size bed that was handed down to me when I got married by my parents and it was comfortable and soft. It’s been 8 years now with the same mattress and now my back has been hurting which it didn’t before. I’ve been looking for mattresses and there are so many brands out there. I’ve come across the Kathy Ireland’s website. I didn’t know she had a mattress company. I’m having trouble deciding which company to go through. Any suggestions?
Hi Monica, I’m really not sure. Personally, I like waterbeds and think the air mattresses are very comfortable. You might want to look at this mattress information from our sleep disorders Guide. It’s pretty interesting.
King size mattresses serve the purpose of couples who are looking for optimum personal sleeping space and maximum comfort. About 18 inches wider than a queen bed, a king size mattress offers a lots of benefits:
• A king size mattress is the largest mattress of all; it’s a good option for those who are tall. Its thickness makes you comfortable regardless of bed frame.
• The king size mattress is durable. The thickness of the mattress makes it long lasting.
• A king size mattress is made with four main styles of support. These are inner springs, air chambers, foam and water.
• A regular king size mattress is made with different dimensions in different places. In the United States and Canada, a king size mattress measures 76 inches wide by 80 inches long.
• In UK, a standard king size mattress is 60 inches wide and 78 inches long.
• In Asia and the rest of the world, a standard king size mattress is 72 X 78 inches.
Choose either a firm mattress or a soft padded king size mattress with some additional surface padding and unique coils from a variety of furniture stores in UK. Providing the right support and comfort, king size mattresses are a good investment for your good night’s sleep, health, and of course great for your interior designs.
